Clean Air Heating and Air Conditioning is one of the few International Ground Source Heat Pump Association (IGSHPA) Certified Geothermal Installers in the San Antonio area.
What Is A Geothermal Heat Pump?
Geothermal heat pumps operate by using the relatively constant temperature of the earth to heat or cool water that is piped into wells 100-400 feet deep. The air conditioner rejects heat into the water. The water rejects the heat into the earth. In heating mode, the earth would reject heat into the water, and the water rejects the heat into the home. Conventional forced air systems reject heat into the air, but the earth is a much more efficient heat sink. It is not easy to reject heat into the air when it's 105 degrees outside.
Geothermal Heat Pumps can be up to 70% more efficient than conventional systems. Here in San Antonio, the savings will usually be closer to 60%.
Geothermal Heat Pumps Qualify for Tax Credits
Most utilities, including CPS in San Antonio, offer rebates via a statement credit for installing energy efficient air conditioning and a Federal Tax Credit for 30% of the installed cost, with no upper limit, is available through 2016.
